trials of many kinds

Right now I'm studying through the book of James. I'm using this book (which I highly recommend.. it also goes through 1,2,3 John and Philemon). When I started the study, I actually had forgotten that the entire first chapter of James is about facing "trials of many kinds." But as soon as I started reading, I knew this is the book God wanted me to be in.

On day 5 of the study we cross referenced 1 Peter 4:12-19:

12 Dear friends, do not be surprised at the painful trial you are suffering, as though something strange were happening to you. 13 But rejoice that you participate in the sufferings of Christ, so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed. 14 If you are insulted because of the name of Christ, you are blessed, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you. 15 If you suffer, it should not be as a murderer or thief or any other kind of criminal, or even as a meddler. 16 However, if you suffer as a Christian, do not be ashamed, but praise God that you bear that name. 17 For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do not obey the gospel of God? 18 And,

“If it is hard for the righteous to be saved,
what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?”

19 So then, those who suffer according to God’s will should commit themselves to their faithful Creator and continue to do good.

There is so much in this passage about who we are in Christ, what we should do in the midst of trials, and what will happen when they're over. But I wanted to share the practical applications that the Lord revealed to me.

How to deal with "trials of many kinds":

1. Don't be surprised when they happen (v.12)
2. It will eventually lead to joy (v.13)
3. You will be blessed (v.14)
4. Do not be ashamed (v.16)
5. Praise God (v.16)
6. Commit yourself to the Lord (v.19)
7. Keep doing good (v.19)

God is so good. While I know we all wish we didn't have to face trials, He allows them for a reason. They grow us and mold us into who He has for us to be. And I'm thankful that He considers me worthy to face trials for that reason. I want to be a better Christ follower, wife, mom, daughter, sister, and friend.

So today I am thankful for the trials I've faced in my life. I know on the other side of trials are blessings of many kinds. Praise be to God.
