How old were you when you got married?
Technically I was 18. But it was the day before my 19th birthday. You can read more about it here and here.
Why did you start blogging?
I originally started blogging to express my opinions about our culture and current events. One day while I was sitting at the train station in downtown San Diego taking photos, I decided it would be fun to start an online photo diary. I figured it would be cool to share my photos and random life with anyone who wanted to read about it. Slowly the two became one blog and I have a hard time categorizing it.
When did you start thrifting?
I've been thrifting since Jr High. My mom used to take me every now and then. She taught me to be thrifty and frugal from an early age. I really started getting into it during my "goth" phase. I refused to wear anything other than skirts and I began collecting them mostly from thrift stores. I really wish I had pictures of them now because I had a pretty rad collection [can you hear the sarcasm there?]
Where do you thrift shop?
This is probably the most frequently asked question.
In Vegas, thrifting is a bit more difficult. We really only have Goodwill, Salvation Army and Savers. All are over-priced in my opinion and so I don't thrift as often as I would like to!
In Texas I shopped mostly at Thrift Town and some other little resale shops and garage sales.
In Oceanside and Vista I frequented Potpourri Thrift and Resale (my absolute favorite), DAV on PCH, Women's Resource Center thrift store (helps a good cause), Garment Gourmet Resale, Catholic Charities Shopportunity, Assitance League North Coast and every now and then I took a day trip over to Poway. There is an entire shopping center of thrift shops on Poway Road.. which is where I used to shop in high school. I could spend the entire day going from shop to shop, all by myself.
Is your husband in the military?
He used to be in the Marine Corps. He finished his second contract in March 2011 and is now using his GI Bill to go to school. You can read more about our story, including military life here.
What is your job?
I am a full time stay at home mom, homemaker and trophy wife (yes, trophy wife). I've been in the home for the past 5 years and I can't imagine having it any other way. Before we had Isaac, people thought I was crazy for staying home and not having kids to take care of. But honestly, that's the way my husband prefers it (he comes home to a home cooked meal every night and the apartment is usually kept clean) and it's the way I prefer it too. And it's not that I don't work because I'm trained in nothing: I have an AA in Liberal Studies, a BA in Psychology and I was a bookkeeper for Vons/Safeway for 3 years. I also have some training in floral design.
You read alot. What is your favorite book?
That's a tough one.
Of course the Bible is at the top.
Fiction: 1984. I've read it multiple times because it's just such a good social commentary.
Classics: To Kill a Mocking Bird
Non-fiction: The Marketing of Evil
Parenting book: On Becoming Babywise
You can see all the books I've read and plan to read here.
What kind of camera do you use?
I currently a use a Canon EOS 20D (LOVE it). Sometimes I use our Nikon Coolpix point-and-shoot and of course, I use my cell phone. For video we record on our Flip and also on the Nikon.
Are you a photographer?
Nope. When I was younger it was one of my many dreams. But I've always loved art and I enjoy being creative with a camera. I love trying out different angles and capturing the mundane in new and creative ways. I'm not very good at it, but its definitely a hobby.
